The Louisiana State University Health New Orleans School of Dentistry (LSUSD) Internationally Educated Dentists Program (IEDP) is for dentists holding a dental degree from countries outside the United States and Canada. The program employs a mandatory 2 1/3-year curriculum. Qualified students are enrolled in the pre-doctoral dental program (D.D.S.) as third-year dental students following successful completion of the IEDP Advanced Placement Skills and Knowledge Assessment curriculum. Once enrolled in the D.D.S. program, each IEDP student must satisfactorily complete the third- and fourth-year dental curriculum as prescribed. No waiver of classes is granted. LSUSD expects all applicants to and students of IEDP to meet all Technical Standards for the Profession as stated in the LSUSD Catalog.

Letters of Evaluation Instructions

A letter of recommendation (LOR) from a faculty member of the school from which the dental degree was issued is required. Two additional LORs (cannot be more than 2 years old) are also required. Up to three additional LORs concerning practice experience or shadowing in a dental office are encouraged. All LORs to be uploaded through ADEA CAAPID by their respective authors.

TOEFL Requirement Instructions

Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Successful completion of the TOEFL internet-based exam with a score of 90 or above is required. TOEFL results must be from testing dates within two years of the application cycle. TOEFL score should be uploaded as part of the ADEA CAAPID application. TOEFL Home edition scores will be accepted.

National Board Requirement Instructions

Applicants must have passed Part I of the NBDE or Integrated NBDE.
