Ponce Health Sciences University

This track consists of a 26-month advanced-standing pathway leading to the D.M.D. degree. Prior to enrollment in the D3 class within the D.M.D. program, applicants must be accepted and successfully complete the accelerated six-week Comprehensive Dental Foundations for Advanced Standing. It is a calibration and preparation course that reviews the fundamentals of dentistry across diverse clinical disciplines. This training is designed to prepare the students to integrate seamlessness into the Third Year. This innovative track includes private practice rotations in different sites across the Islands of Puerto Rico. Students will need significant capacity to spend time in different locations in PR and be able to commute/ flexible housing arrangements. Candidates would need to review state-specific licensure requirements for future practice in the United States (each State has its own dental licensure laws).

Citizenship and Immigration Eligibility

PHSU defines an international student as an individual who is not a citizen or permanent resident of the country where they study and has a temporary visa for educational purposes.
International students must hold an F-1 Student Visa, or J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa to study in the United States. 

Transcript Evaluation and Instructions

Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), World Education Services (WES)

Original or certified copies of all credentials required for admissions accompanied by an English translation (if in a world language) and official degree evaluations from a NACES-approved evaluator, such as WES (World Education Services) or ECE (Education Credential Evaluators). All evaluations must be provided directly from the evaluation/translation service. NACES members can be found at the following link: https://www.naces.org/members

Letters of Evaluation Instructions

First Letter: It must come from someone who can comment on the applicant's academic performance, such as a professor, dean of the school or academic advisor. For non-traditional candidates, it must come from a supervisor or employer.

The second letter must be from someone who can assess advocacy experience—letters from people who know the applicant rather than those with impressive titles. For non-traditional candidates, it must come from a supervisor or employer.

TOEFL Requirement Instructions

The TOEFL exam will not be required for this program. Candidates applying to the Advanced Standing Program must be bilingual in both English and Spanish. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the interview process.

Candidates who may have deficiencies in one or both languages will be referred for evaluation by the Language Support Program (LSP) at Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU).

The LSP will conduct a verbal assessment for the candidate. Please note that this evaluation is free of charge.

National Board Requirement Instructions

Instructions for Sending INBDE or NBDE Results

Official National Board scores must be submitted directly to the ADEA CAAPID application. Candidates must ensure that their official results are sent through ADEA CAAPID in order for their application to be considered for evaluation.

Applicants should not send their National Board results directly to the Admissions Office.

 

Other Requirement Instructions

A Certiphi Background check will be required for accepted candidates.  A link will be sent automatically to accepted students.  They must complete this requirement in order to finalize their student file in the Admissions Office. 

Candidates invited to the interview process must pay a fee. To obtain information regarding the fee, please contact the Admissions Office. 

Interviews we will be in Ponce, Puerto Rico and advanced notice will be provided so candidates can make the travel arrangments.  All candidates languange proficiency will be evaluated during the interview.  They will be asked questions in both English and Spanish.

The bench test will include Operative, Fixed Prosthodontics and RPD design skills.
