The International Dentist Program (IDP) at the Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College (TCDM at NYCM) is designed to provide qualified dentists educated outside the United States with the education and experience required to earn a U.S. dental degree. Participants will earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree following an intensive, two-year didactic and clinical program.

Citizenship and Immigration Eligibility

Eligibility for Non-U.S. or Canadian Citizens

Non-U.S. or Canadian citizens are eligible to apply to the program. If admitted, international applicants will be required to:

  • Obtain the appropriate student visa prior to matriculation.

  • Provide documentation of a financial commitment covering two years of study before enrollment can be finalized.

Letters of Evaluation Instructions

Applicants must submit three Letters of Evaluation through the ADEA CAAPID portal. (Do not send directly to the school.) Letters should come from academic faulty or dental professionals who can best attest to your skills, abilities and personal attributes..

TOEFL Requirement Instructions

English Language Proficiency Requirement

Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Scores must be obtained within two years of the program start date.

TOEFL results of 4.5 (new scoring model) or 90 (old conversion) or higher are considered competitive by the Admissions Committee.

Applicants are responsible for arranging submission of official TOEFL scores directly to ADEA CAAPID®. Instructions for score submission are available online.

Please note:

  • Interview dates have no impact on the TOEFL submission deadline. The program start date is used to determine score validity.

  • Other dental schools may have different TOEFL requirements. Applicants are advised to confirm policies with each institution.

  • This program does not accept the IELTS exam or TOEFL MyBest Scores as substitutes for meeting the English proficiency requirement.

National Board Requirement Instructions

The program requires passage of NBDE Part I and II if scores are not more than three years old, or the Integrated NBDE (INBDE) to be considered for admission. Applicants who have passed NBDE Part II or INBDE will be given preference for admission. You must make arrangements to submit official NBDE or INBDE scores to ADEA CAAPID. You must self-report NBDE or INBDE scores in the ADEA CAAPID portal. The Committee will not know if you passed NBDE Part I and Part II or the INBDE in your online ADEA CAAPID application if you don’t self-report and submit official NBDE or INBDE scores.
