The University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine (UPR SDM) offers an Advanced Placement Program for internationally trained dentists and upon completion, they will earn a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. The program consists of a five-week summer course followed by two years of full-time dental curriculum, comprising both third and fourth years of dental school.

Letters of Evaluation Instructions

Program accepts up to three Letters of Evaluation. Program prefers one Letter of Evaluation to come from Dean of the Dental School from which the applicant graduated.

TOEFL Requirement Instructions

Must be proficient in the English language. All applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) to be considered for admission. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the TOEFL. Applicants must submit original TOEFL score report directly to program, not to ADEA CAAPID® (ADEA Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists). 

National Board Requirement Instructions

The program requires passage of INBDE Part I or the NBDE to be considered for admission. Submit official scores to the program, not to ADEA CAAPID, after submitting an application.

Other Requirement Instructions

  • A minimum grade point average of 2.00 (in scale where A=4.00) from dental school, or its equivalent, is mandatory. 

  • Three letters of reference (preferably from dental school faculty). 

  • Attested copies, with English translation, of dental school diploma and dental school transcripts. 

  • Copy of visa or immigration status. 

  • Curriculum vitae. 

  • Personal statement or essay.

  • Must be proficient in the Spanish language.
