Fall 2026 Program Entry

Welcome!

Dear Prospective Student:

Thank you for your interest in the Dental Hygiene Program at Palo Alto College, a part of the Career and Technical Education Division. It is with great pleasure that I share information about our Program with you. Our program is designed with the student as the center of its curriculum. Our focus is always on excellence while we develop the entry level dental hygienist. The mission of our program is “to provide the community with an entry level dental hygiene workforce that has an education focused on evidence-based dentistry and technology that is inclusive of integrity, ethics, and compassion for the improvement of oral health and the overall health of the community they serve.”

At the Palo Alto College Dental Hygiene Program (PACDHP), we were granted (A1 Status) from the Commission on Dental Accreditation (The Commission) of Accreditation Approval without reporting requirements. This level of status by the Commission is the highest level of Accreditation. The curriculum, once completed by the student, will lead to an Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene. Once the degree has been granted, the student will be eligible to register and sit for the Joint Commission on National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE) and a clinical licensing board exam of their choice based upon the state where they would like to practice dental hygiene.

The PACDHP’s curriculum has been designed with student success as the focus. Our curriculum focuses on developing rich learning content for the student that has 2,208 contact hours that includes 768 of those hours focused on clinical instruction. This program is considered a full-time workforce program that is a Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The courses are all face-to-face courses located in building 41 – Rio Grande Building on the Palo Alto College Campus. We have a 30- chair facility that has state-of-the-art technology and equipment. The student will learn to care for their patient's in a paperless environment for all learning and patient care. The curriculum is outlined on the Palo Alto College Dental Hygiene website: https://www.alamo.edu/pac/academics/search-programs/professional-and-technical/dental-hygiene/. Curriculum is subject to change as the content is continually updated to the market demands.

The prospective students may have questions regarding advising as they directly relate to Palo Alto College. The dental hygiene specific advisor in our advising department is Juan Venegas. He can be reached at the following email jvenegas21@alamo.edu or contact phone is 210-486-3672. He also has online appointments, if you choose.

Thank you for your interest in the profession of dental hygiene and for choosing Palo Alto College Dental Hygiene Program as your future program.

Sincerely,

Diane I. Wilson, RDH, MEd
