The UT San Antonio Master of Science in Dental Hygiene degree prepares the graduate to assume positions of responsibility in education, educational leadership, public health, and industry beyond that of the baccalaureate graduate. The graduate degree also provides a foundation for doctoral-level study. The program is student-centered, individualized, and flexible. The faculty is committed to facilitating the development of creative thinking professionals who are competent to pursue careers in teaching, public/community health care, leadership, and research. Self-evaluation and self-direction are encouraged throughout the program. Students have the opportunity to share their experiences, work cooperatively with colleagues, and explore a variety of resources to reach their maximum potential as healthcare professionals.

The program is offered completely online with one required visit to the campus for orientation in July. First-year classes follow the Graduate School Schedule and begin in late August. Successful distance learning requires the discipline of students to allocate time for study that would occur in a classroom. It allows greater learner flexibility in the hours chosen to complete the 36-semester credit hour program.

Quote from a Graduate

“After completing my BSDH at UTHealth San Antonio, I chose this graduate program because I wanted to deepen my knowledge of dental hygiene, conduct top-tier educational research, and develop my pedagogical skills with guidance from highly qualified professors. The coursework was rigorous and relevant and the professors provided invaluable mentorship to me as new educator.”
