South Brooklyn Health GPR offers comprehensive clinical training in a high-volume, hospital-based setting that closely resembles a private practice workflow. Residents spend 8 months providing comprehensive dental treatment with an emphasis on continuity of care. This includes treatment planning, operative, crowns, bridges, dentures, extractions, root canals, and implant placement.
The remaining 4 months are dedicated to emergency dental care. Residents manage a high-volume of walk-in patients, perform limited evaluations to diagnose their source of pain, and oftentimes provide same-day treatment. This rotation consists primarily of root canals (anterior, premolar, and molar), and extractions (simple and surgical). The rotation strives to help residents build strong clinical efficiency and gain confidence in managing acute dental emergencies.
The program also includes hospital rotations in anesthesiology and emergency medicine. These rotations strengthen skills in sedation, medical risk assessment, and interdisciplinary care.
Residents treat a large and diverse patient population, including many who are medically complex. This experience builds confidence, strong clinical judgment, and proficiency in managing both routine and challenging cases.
