The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Advanced Education Program at Augusta University is a four-year program fulfilling the requirements for advanced training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as outlined by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. The residency program consists of didactic education in basic and clinical sciences, clinical rotations, and research. Multiple degree pathways exist for the resident to seek a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a Master of Science in Oral Biology (MS).

 

The first year of training includes clinical rotations in oral and maxillofacial surgery for 4 months, Internal Medicine for 2 months, Adult and Pediatric Anesthesia for 5 months, and Perioperative Anesthesia/ICU for 1 month. The second year includes clinical rotations in surgery (6 months) that include Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Trauma Surgery and ICU care, ENT, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (6 months). The third year includes elective rotations with Oculoplastics (1 month), Research (1 month), or time spent in OMFS private office orientation (1 month) for up to 2 total months that can be allocated to the above electives at the beginning of the academic year and upon approval from the Program Director. A total of 10-12 months is spent with the OMFS service in the third year. The fourth-year residents serve as the OMFS service chiefs, a total of 12 months at the end of the last year of training.

 

The program also offers and supports mission trips outside the United States, organized by the OMFS faculty, and various other educational opportunities.

Transcript Evaluation and Instructions

An official dental college transcript must be sent directly to ADEA PASS.  No exceptions. 

Letters of Evaluation Instructions

Three performance evaluation forms/letters (PEF) of evaluation are required to be submitted to ADEA PASS in addition to the dental college dean's evaluation (IEF).  

 

TOEFL Requirement Instructions

Applicants born outside the United States and whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language, the Internet-based version of TOEFL (iBT TOEFL). Minimum scores are 100 total, and 26 in the speaking component.   All scores should be submitted to ADEA PASS.  Scores older than five years can be reviewed if submitted.  

Other Requirement Instructions

We only consider candidates who are U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents with an approved green card status, no exceptions. All residents must obtain a Georgia dental license prior to beginning residency.
