I welcome your interest in the San Antonio VA AEGD Residency. I think it will excite and motivate you to see all the advanced dentistry that is performed. We are a competitive program, but I do not limit the residents we take to a certain class rank. We look for the most motivated, hard working, eager to learn residents. We try to pick residents we think will gain the most from our program.
I hope this information is useful to you in evaluating the AEGD Program. My program is a very comprehensive General Dentistry Program with advanced training in all areas of dentistry, especially Digital Dentistry utilizing CAD/CAM equipment, Surgical Placement and Restoration of Implants, Periodontal Surgery, Endodontics, Esthetic Restoration including Veneers and All Porcelain Crown and Onlays, Advanced Crown and Bridge including Full Mouth Rehabilitation, Advanced Oral Surgery, IV Sedation, the treatment of Medically Compromised Patients, and Orthodontics (including SureSmile).
The South Texas Veterans Health Care System AEGD is well rounded. You will get didactic and clinical training in Peridontics, Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Geriatrics, TMD, Sleep Medicine, IV Sedation, Implant Surgery, Implant Restorations, Digital Dentures, Digital implant Abutments and Superstructures, Digital chair-side dentistry.
The South Texas Veterans Health Care Advanced Education in General Dentistry is fully engaged in digital dentistry.
The AEGD residents didactically and clinically learn to:
-scan and mill natural tooth crowns, inlays, onlays and bridges
-fabricate digital dentures
-scan, digitally plan and place dental implants
-scan and digitally restore dental implants
-diagnose, treatment plan, surgically place and restore dental implants for single tooth, partially edentulous and fully edentulous cases

The program is a 1 year program with an optional 2nd year ($70,000). The current first year stipend is $65,000 and San Antonio is a very economical city in which to live. One bedroom apartments range from $1000-1500/ month and two bedroom apartment range from $1500-$1800/ month. There are numerous apartment complexes close to the dental clinic.
I will be happy to discuss the details of my AEGD program with you. I can be reached at 210-949-8900.
I will need to set up interviews after my application deadline and will be emailing offers to interview in October 2025.

Thanks for your inquiry and let me know if you have any questions.
My program is PASS program #148. The only supplemental application materials I need is a self photograph sent directly to me. You can choose to have additonal Letters of Recommendation also sent directly to me.
The PASS information is not accurate, there is no "Online Application" to complete. I do not participate in the Match Program. We select the residents in October and announce immediately on selection day. We only accept US Citizens that have graduated from a North American Dental School (accreditated by the Commission on Dental Accreditation).
Sincerely,
Alan Scott Douglas D.D.S.
