The Pediatric Dentistry Residency at Geisinger Medical Center is a 2-year, certificate program fully accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. The program offers a strong clinical and didactic training including restorative treatment, pulpal therapy, infant oral health and establishing a dental home, prevention, trauma, orthodontics (fixed, removable, interceptive), oral surgery, prosthodontics, oral pathology, behavior guidance including sedation and general anesthesia and practice management. A strong didactic component complements the vast clinical experiences the residency offers. Courses on pediatric dentistry, microbiology, cardiology, anesthesia, sedation, and many others offered by physicians dedicating their practice to these specialites within the Geisinger Health System. Additional didactic experiences include course work in the basic and clinical sciences, seminar and laboratory sessions, patient simulations, a research project presented to the faculty, and preparation for the Qualifying Exam and the Oral Clinical Exam given by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Clinic rotations include: operating room services, anesthesia, pediatrics, medically compromised patients, conscious sedation, hospital consultations and IV sedation.
