Georgia School of Orthodontics is an Advanced Specialty Education Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics based in Atlanta, Georgia. GSO was founded with the mission to educate qualified dentists to become specialists in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics with a commitment to excellence in patient-centered care, effective teaching, meaningful research, and service to the community. Each year, forty- five students who have completed their dental degree will be selected for the Program leading to a certificate of proficiency in clinical orthodontics.

Transcript Evaluation and Instructions

Applicants must submit an official dental transcript as a part of our application requirements. International applicants must send their transcripts through the ECE or WES transcript evaluation service. Provisional degrees are not accepted. 

Letters of Evaluation Instructions

Applicants must submit 3 letters of recommentation. Two must come from dental school faculty. The one additional letters can come from practicing orthodontistis, dental faculty, or practicing dentists.

TOEFL Requirement Instructions

TOEFL Requirements for Non-Native English Speakers – All international applicants, (anyone who currently holds a visa or will need a visa) must be proficient in the English language in order to be considered for admission. Applicants whose first language is not English must provide valid TOEFL scores. TOEFL score reports must be no more than two years old. Applicants should self-report their TOEFL results in the application. In addition, applicants must arrange to have an official TOEFL score report sent directly from the test agency to the Georgia School of Orthodontics at the address listed below under “Contact.” U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents are not required to submit TOEFL scores. International applicants who have earned a degree from a U.S. or English-speaking Canadian university may be exempted from the TOEFL requirement.

Georgia School of Orthodontics English Proficiency TOEFL Minimum Requirements:

(iBT- Internet based TOEFL) minimum total score: 86 

 (pBT- Paper-based TOEFL) minimum total score: 567

We also except the IELTS exam. You must score a 6.5 or above to meet the English Proficiency requirement.

  • Applicants are required to complete the GSO Supplemental Declaration and Certification of Finances document. Please see below for additional information. Applications will not be considered until the supplemental documents are complete and application fee is received. Upload the completed form with supporting documents to your PASS application. There are three different versions of this document, depending upon your citizenship and dental training. Please make sure you complete the correct version.
    • U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident & CODA Dental Trained – This form is for U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents who graduated from a CODA accredited dental school.
    • U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident & Non-CODA Dental Trained – This form is for U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents who graduated from a non-CODA accredited dental school.
    • International Citizens/Residents (Visa Holders) – This form is for International Citizens/Residents who graduated from a non-CODA accredited dental school.

Additional Information

OUR MATCH APPLICATION CYCLE OPENS May 14th, 2025. THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR THE MATCH CYCLE IS  October 1st, 2025. Our Post- Match cycle will open December 1st, 2025 and close February 1st, 2026.

Completed Pass Application to include:

  • Official Dental School Transcripts from all colleges attended
  • PASSING NBDE Scores for Part I and Part II OR INBDE 
  • Personal Essay regarding orthodontic experiences and reason for desiring orthodontic training
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Letters of Recommendation (2 from a dental school faculty member, 1 from practicing dentists)
  • Academic Performance Evaluation (completed by the current Dean of your dental school)

International Applicants - In addition to the items above, applicants must have the following below:

  • TOEFL score for (Non-Native English Speakers)- GSO's School Code is C760
    • 86 iBT / 567 (Paper Based)
  • IELTS- 6.5 or above
  • International students who have earned a degree from a U.S. or English-Speaking Canadian university may be exempt from the TOEFL requirement.
  • Official WES or ECE Evaluated transcripts; Provisional degrees are not accepted.
  • NBDE Scores are REQUIRED for ALL applicants.
