Hartford Hospital is the flagship hospital of Hartford Healthcare and a Level I Trauma center. Hartford Hospital has the only dental department within Hartford Healthcare's system of nine hospitals. The Department of Dentistry sees over 23,000 patient visits a year. Our program's mission is to prepare the recent graduate with the expertise and confidence that will be necessary to attain a position in a competetive market. The program is staffed by two full time general dentists and a part time oral surgeon. We have about 13 part time volunteer attendings in most specialties that attend the clinic twice a month. We have financial assistance programs available to eliminate financial barriers to our patient population. The GPR residents are mainly in our department Monday to Friday performing bread and better general dentistry. Rotations consist of Medicine and Anesthesia (90 hours each). Didactics consist of weekly Spear Education (a CE continuum), monthly treatment planning seminars with a local prosthodontist, lectures from dental attendings, and monthly journal club. Continuing education consists of attending the Yankee Dental Conference, CSDA lectures, Hartford Dental Society meetings. Our residents will also support the ED on a limited on call basis. In the ED, the residents will splint teeth for patients who have had dental alveolar trauma. They will also perform incision and drainages and treat patients in the ED who are bleeding from the mouth. Throughout the work week, the residents will also perform dental clearances for cardiac, oncology, and orthopedics. Each resident will have their own operatory and dedicated dental assistant (90% of the time). We have five positions available. What we look for in the ideal candidate is an open minded graduate who has the passion, enthusiasm, and the willingness to learn. We accept the PASS application. All references should be submitted through PASS. We accept only CODA accredited US/Canadian Dental school graduates. We offer shadowing positions to any candidate that is interested in our program.
