Program Contact
The Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry program is a fully accredited 24-month school-based program beginning July 1. Five positions are authorized for each incoming class. The program is designed to meet the requirements of the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
The curriculum is intended to encompass the progressive graded sequence of formal courses and both clinical and hospital experiences in the theory and practice of pediatric dentistry at the postgraduate level. The program emphasizes the application of biological, physiological and psychological principles during the periods of physical and emotional development of the infant, child and adolescent and for patients with special healthcare needs. An appreciation for and understanding of the importance of service to the community, contributing to the body of science through research and preparing the graduate to attain board-certification (Diplomate) status are also major areas of emphasis of this program.

PROGRAM GOALS
- To produce graduates of the advanced education in pediatric dentistry postdoctoral program who have both didactic and clinical experiences that will equip them with the skills, knowledge and competence needed to practice and teach pediatric dentistry.
- To prepare residents to appropriately render quality care to infants, adolescents and patients with special health care needs, competently, efficiently, and safely as per the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry guidelines.
- To prepare pediatric dentistry residents to participate in and successfully complete the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) board certification examination and achieve Diplomate status following matriculation from the program.
- To prepare matriculating postgraduate residents to make meaningful contributions to the body of knowledgeable through quality evidence-based research.

Additional Information
The program is supplemented by a grant funded award given by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The stipend is based on academic year, the AY 2025-2026 stipend is $34,000 (PGY-1) and $34,000 (PGY-2).
