The postdoctoral pediatric dentistry program at Indiana University is administered through Indiana University School of Dentistry, Indiana University School of Medicine, and IU Health. It is a 24-month program with new classes beginning the first week of July every year. The clinical training is based at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children, but some clinical experiences are also obtained at the School of Dentistry. Didactic courses are offered in both the school and hospital settings.

The training program is accredited by the Commissions on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.  Each trainee is a graduate student of the School of Dentistry and a resident at Riley Hospital.  Although the program has a significant didactic component, it also has a strong clinical orientation and trainees spend 75% to 80% of their scheduled time in clinical activities. The clinical training includes a wide range of out-patient and in-patient care and encompasses all phases of treatment in the specialty of pediatric dentistry.  Different clinical rotations focus special attention on anesthesiology, oral-facial anomalies, occlusion, emergencies and trauma follow-up, medical and physical disorders, patient management and sedation, pediatric, periodontics and endodontics, and cooperative participation with the various sections of the Department of Pediatrics.

Applicants to this program must have a US or Canadian dental degree to be eligible for this program.
