Maimonides Orthodontics is a three-year, hospital-based program that begins on July 1 and accepts two residents each year. The program concentrates on the diagnosis and treatment of dental malocclusions and craniofacial abnormalities pertaining to the oral and maxillofacial region.
Maimonides Orthodontics prides itself on providing a broad clinical experience together with excellent didactic instruction. The orthodontic residents receive their training from board certified and eligible attending staff. First year residents participate in weekly rotations to the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Kings County Hospital. In addition, the orthodontic residents actively participate in the monthly orthognathic and cleft palate conferences, which are held in conjunction with the oral surgery program at Kings County Hospital.
In addition to meeting all of the required clinical and didactic standards, residents are encouraged to present their research and cases at the regional and national orthodontic meetings. Before finishing the program, a research project of publishable quality should be completed. Upon program completion, residents are expected to be highly competent to diagnose and provide orthodontic care.
