Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry, a part of a renowned academic medical center, is proud to announce the acceptance of applications, for its Pediatric Dental Residency class. Our location, in the urban center of Nashville, TN, affords opportunities to provide care with professionals grounded in community healthcare and specialists respected in the fields.

Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry Pediatric Dentistry Residency is a two-year certificate training program. It is a University-based residency program with an affiliation at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. This is a tuition-based program with the opportunity to continue studies here at Meharry Medical College. Residents will have the opportunity to pursue an additional advanced degree at the School of Graduate Studies and Research at Meharry or the Meharry School of Applied Computational Sciences.

There will be four residents chosen each year, with the first class beginning July 1, 2024.

Our residency program aims to enhance dental education through:

Community-Focused Engagement

Residents will evaluate and provide comprehensive oral healthcare and education to a vast array of patients with racial, cultural, and economic diversity in a humanistic and supportive environment.

 

Rigorous Learning

Residents will treat patients in an ambulatory, outpatient setting utilizing the spectrum of behavior guidance techniques. As well as render care utilizing sedation and general anesthesia for infants, children, adolescents and those with special healthcare needs.

 

Interprofessional Approach

Residents will have the unique opportunity to interact, plan treatment, and render care with members of the Craniofacial Anomalies team at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, as well as learn how to diagnose and manage an array of patients with orofacial pain and traumatic injuries.
