The Cleveland Dental Institute is a fully accredited program offering clinical and didactic experience in all areas of dentistry to U.S. and International dental school graduates. The program provides clinical, didactic and hospital experiences that prepare the residents to manage the total oral health of ambulatory and hospitalized patients.  The overall objective of the General Practice Residency Program is to graduate general dentists who have essential clinical skills that will allow them to practice total patient care including advanced dental procedures as well as the evaluation of the overall health of their patients, which includes medically compromised patients.

Residents obtain clinical experience in an 11 operatory hospital dental center. While assigned to the Dental Center, residents will provide general dentistry services to patients presenting to the facility under the supervision of general dentists and specialists.  Specialists at the MVH Dental Center will provide resident training in endodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, periodontics, and implantology.  The residents may also have the opportunity to participate in a Conscious Sedation Elective, which when successfully completed, qualify the resident for a Conscious Sedation Permit in Ohio.

A minimum score of 75 on the TOEFL exam, or an equivalent score on the IELTS or another recognized English proficiency test, is required for admission. Alternatively, applicants may provide other evidence of English language proficiency. A TOEFL score is required for admission, yet an interview can be scheduled before a score is received.

The successful completion of either NBDE Part I and Part II or the INBDE is required for graduation.
