Newark Beth Israel Medical Center's General Practice Residency in Dentistry is an educational program designed to provide clinical, didactic and hospital experience at the postdoctoral level.

 Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) is a major hospital within RWJBarnabas Health. It is an advanced acute care hospital serving the residents of New Jersey as well as receiving referrals for other hospital’s most difficult cases.  With more than 800 physicians, 3,200 employees and 150 volunteers, the Medical Center has over 300,000 outpatient visits and 25,000 admissions annually. It is one of two hospitals in New Jersey where heart transplants are performed and the only hospital in New Jersey certified to perform lung transplants.

  Our goals are accomplished by specific objectives for each clinical and didactic component of the program, primarily within the context of patient care.

  There are planned teaching sessions directed by the members of the attending staff in a structured curriculum. There are over 200 hours of scheduled lectures in the didactic curriculum. Specialty clinic sessions in orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics and oral & maxillofacial surgery are scheduled each week.

 There are no specialty training programs at the Beth, so our GPR’s do ALL specialty services including endodontics, periodontal surgery, OMFS, prosthodontic and implant services

International Student Eligibility

This program will consider applicants who graduated, or plan to graduate, from a non-CODA accredited dental school: No

Applicants are eligible to enroll if they are:

  • US Citizen
  • US Permanent Resident
  • Canadian Citizen
  • Non-US Citizen/Resident (applicant must obtain their own sponsorship)

Additional Information

We only accept Graduates of accredited North American (US and Canada) Dental Schools.

As in the past, the requirement is passing the "National Boards" prior to our start date of 7/1/25.

There is no requirement regarding the date of taking the examination.
