The 36 month Advanced Specialty Education Program in Periodontology is designed to provide the graduate with the knowledge and skills which will prepare them for a successful career in clinical practice, research, and/or education. The didactic portion of the program includes core courses as previously listed, small group seminars in classic literature, current literature, implant dentistry, immunology of periodontal diseases, advanced treatment planning, advanced surgical therapy, and intravenous moderate sedation. Clinical experiences are strongly emphasized in all aspects of surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy as well as implant dentistry which includes the restorative aspects in addition to the surgical. Graduates are well prepared to successfully challenge the examinations for Board Certification by the American Board of Periodontology which the majority complete within one year of graduation.
In addition to the Certificate in Postgraduate Periodontology, residents can also concurrently obtain the Master of Science in Dentistry degree as noted below.

Application Requirements
Required Standardized Tests
- TOEFL
- Graduates of a non-CODA accredited institution require an English proficiency (TOEFL), a score of 550 or higher on the paper-based (PBT) version of the Test of English Language as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), a score of 213 or higher on the computer-based test (CBT), or a score of 81 on the Internet-based test (IBT). Automatic waivers of the TOEFL requirement are granted for persons who have completed a bachelor's degree (or higher) at an accredited university in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada (excluding French Quebec), Australia, or New Zealand.
