NSU College of Dental Medicine offers a comprehensive program in Advanced Prosthodontics. The program is fully accredited by the ADA.

The goal of the program is to assist motivated students in attaining excellence in clinical prosthodontics, prepare for careers in private practice, teaching and/or research, and become eligible for examination by the American Board of Prosthodontics.

The clinical component of the program includes all phases of prosthodontics:

  1. complete denture prosthodontics
  2. fixed partial prosthodontics
  3. implant prosthodontics
  4. maxillofacial prosthetics
  5. removable partial prosthodontics

Didactic courses presented include:

  1. dental ceramics
  2. dental materials
  3. fixed, removable, implant, and maxillofacial prosthodontics
  4. head and neck anatomy
  5. interdisciplinary relationships with residents in other specialties
  6. occlusion and TMD
  7. oral pathology
  8. research design and statistics

Didactic courses are presented by means of lecture, seminar, literature review, demonstration and laboratory.

The 36 month program leads to a certificate of training in the specialty and an optional Masters of Science degree. Research leading to a thesis or a manuscript suitable for publication is required for the Master's degree. Specific research time is made available to the resident to assist in the completion of the thesis research project.

While not mandatory, we suggest that the applicant have dental experience beyond dental school, i.e. private practice, member of the Armed Forces, Public Health Service, Department of Veterans Affairs, general practice residency, or a teaching experience in prosthodontics. This experience often makes the advancement to the graduate level a more meaningful transition
