On January 1, 2021, the General Practice Residencies of Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center merged into one GPR program under the One Brooklyn Health System in Central Brooklyn, New York. This merger of the three individual hospital based General Practice Residencies created a greater depth of faculty talent and resources for our program, further strengthening patient care and resident clinical and didactic education.

The One Brooklyn Health GPR has dental centers in each of the hospital campuses and in three offsite community health centers located in the ethnically diverse and historic Brooklyn neighborhoods of Bedford Stuyvesant, Crown Heights and East New York.

The Department of Dental Medicine, which has been in existence for over 60 years offers the full spectrum of dental services. Our residents are trained by General Practitioners and Board Eligible/Certified Specialists.

Our modern dental centers are equipped with state-of-the-art digital imaging systems including CBCT and  self-contained ambulatory OR suites. Intra-oral digital scanning and endodontic rotary instrumentation is also available.

The General Practice Residency is designed to provide training beyond the pre-doctoral level. The program meets and exceeds all standards required by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and is fully accredited without reporting requirements.

Our educational model is based on the concept that oral health is an integral and interactive part of one's total health. Residents are exposed to a broad range of clinical experiences encompassing all general dental procedures including restorative, fixed/removable prosthetics, periodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, endodontics, implant placement and restoration, oral pathology and dental treatment of special needs patients in the dental clinic under IV sedation and in the operating room under General Anesthesia. The program will expand the scope and the depth of the resident's knowledge and skill set, enabling them to provide comprehensive oral care. Residents are encouraged to place and restore implants, provide periodontal surgical care and endodontically treat 1st and 2nd molars. In addition, residents who stay for an optional 2nd year are eligible to pursue a New York State certificate in enteral sedation.

CODA required rotations in Internal Medicine, Anesthesia and Emergency Medicine; along with scholarly activity, participation in organized dentistry and community service are integral aspects of our program. Our program also offers a rotations in  Pediatrics, Oral Surgery and Airway and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

From daily didactic lectures and journal reviews, to in-depth instruction on diagnosis, treatment planning and comprehensive care, residents complete the program with a solid foundation and confidence.
