Highlights:

  • General anesthesia in O.R. settings.  Residents are primary surgeon.   OHSU GPR operates several times per week. 
  • Robust Oral Surgery experience including surgical extractions, third molars and pre-prosthetic surgery (tori removal, alveloloplasty, simple biopsy).  Residents complete from 200-400 extractions per year. 
  • On call duties (trauma, splinting teeth, I&D).  Call is one week at a time (every 6th week)
  • Endodontic treatment using rotary instrument
  • Implant restorations
  • External rotations in Oral Medicine (1 week), Family Medicine (2 weeks), Anesthesiology (3 weeks),  Pediatric Dentistry (2 weeks), Oral Surgery (2 weeks)
  • High-quality, weekly, in-person, protected didactic program including case presentations, M&M, journal club, Kahoot quizzing, lectures from academic dental and medical specialists.
  • Approachable faculty that love to teach.  We want residents to work independently.   This is not a 5th year of dental school.   The handpiece and forceps will be in your hands! 
  • Class size of six residents provides strong community, support, and collaboration
  • This residency prepares one to transition into a career in public health dentistry, private practice, academics, or to pursue additional advanced specialty education.  Past OHSU GPR residents have gone on to match in OMFS, PEDS, PERIO, ORAL MEDICINE, ANESTHESIOLOGY.

Dental School Transcript is required.  Include your rank if possible.

Interview Schedule

OHSU General Practice Residency will hold interviews on Friday, October 23rd, 2026.  Please reserve this date. 

Interviews will be conducted virtually.

The Interview day will include:

 * An overview of the program presented by Dr. Malin Friess, DMD, OHSU GPR Program Director (Assistant Professor)

 * Individual interviews with GPR faculty and the GPR program director

 * A breakout session with current GPR residents, where you can learn more about their experiences and why they chose            OHSU
