  • General anesthesia in O.R. settings.  Residents are primary surgeon.   OHSU GPR operates several times per week. 
  • Robust Oral Surgery experience including surgical extractions, third molars and pre-prosthetic surgery (tori removal, alveloloplasty, simple biopsy).  Residents complete from 200-400 extractions per year. 
  • On call duties (trauma, splinting teeth, I&D).  Call is one week at a time (every 6th week)
  • Endodontic treatment using rotary instruments
  • Training in fabrication of oral sleep apnea appliances
  • Implant restorations
  • External rotations in Oral Medicine (1 week), Family Medicine (2 weeks), Anesthesiology (3 weeks), Sleep Medicine (1 week), Pediatric Dentistry (2 weeks).
  • Clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea with fabrication of OSA appliances
  • High-quality, weekly, in-person, protected didactic program including case presentations, M&M, journal club, Kahoot quizzing, lectures from academic dental and medical specialists.
  • Approachable faculty that love to teach.  We want residents to work independently.   This is not a 5th year of dental school.   The handpiece and forceps will be in your hands! 
  • Class size of six residents provides strong community, support, and collaboration.
  • Optional second year with opportunties for research and leadership
  • This residency prepares one to transition into a career in public health dentistry, private practice, academics, or to pursue additional advanced specialty education.  Past OHSU GPR residents have gone on to match in OMFS, PEDS, PERIO, ORAL MEDICINE.

Interview Schedule

GPR interviews will be held October 17th, 2025 (virtually).  Dr. Friess will present an overview of the program.  Residents will have individual 15 minute interviews with the GPR faculty and the GPR program director.  There will be a break-out session where residents will have the opportunity to speak with current GPR residents about the program.
