Program Highlights
Dentistry Residency - Overlook - Atlantic Health
Overlook Dental Center's General Practice Residency is a 12-month program that runs from July 1st to June 30th. The program admits three (PGY1) residents and one (PGY2) chief resident every year and focuses on all aspects of general dentistry, patient care, and didactic education. Further expansion of a resident's dental and medical healthcare education is accomplished through rotations within Overlook Medical Center's - Emergency, Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, and Family Practice Departments. The goal of the program is to build upon the residents' graduate education by reinforcing and fine tuning their skills, promoting patient focused care and thus building confidence in our dental practitioners.
Our residency program offers a distinctive private practice-based model in which residents manage a full schedule of comprehensive patient care, including restorative and esthetic dentistry, Invisalign, endodontics, and all facets of general practice. Residents assume primary responsibility for treatment planning and execution, allowing them to follow cases from diagnosis through completion while developing meaningful, long-term patient relationships. This longitudinal, patient-centered approach - supported by experienced attendings and a collaborative clinical team - fosters clinical autonomy, continuity of care, and practice management skills, distinguishing it from traditional hospital-based programs that focus primarily on acute or limited care.
Together, these elements cultivate the real-world experience necessary for a seamless and successful transition into independent private practice or specialty training.
