Program Overview
The Spartanburg Medical Center AEGD at Spartanburg Community Dental Center (SCDC) located in Spartanburg, SC is a mission-driven, high-impact program delivering resident-led care for patients who often face barriers to treatment.
Residents should expect a mix of comprehensive care patients - creating strong case variety and consistent clinical reps.
Training is built around real patient ownership, high-volume experience, and accessible faculty support.
Clinical Experience (What You’ll Do Here)
Residents gain broad general dentistry experience with clear strengths in areas applicants prioritize:

Implantology training: Residents build competency across the implant workflow - restoration-focused experience tied to real patient cases, with faculty guidance and case review

Surgical experience: Surgical decision-making guidance with strong exposure to complex extractions, sinus augmentations, ridge splits and bone replacement grafts.

Sedation training: IV moderate sedation certification option available, including an oral board, documented cases, and a certificate of completion (for residents who elect the pathway)

Clinic-based learning model: Education is primarily driven by your own cases - treatment planning, weekly case review, and faculty guidance tied directly to resident patients

Technology and Digital Workflow: Residents use digital tools for efficient care delivery, including but not limited to, intraoral scanning/design, 3D printing and same-day crown workflows.
