Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) takes great pride in the quality of its teaching programs. The Department of Dental Medicine conducts one of the major residency programs in the University Hospital system and is one of the oldest. The residency program in General Dentistry has been accredited since 1970, with virtually every specialty in the profession represented by the teaching staff.
Significant resources are committed to an educational philosophy that offers graduate dentists the opportunity to:
-
Refine and advance their knowledge and skills in clinical dentistry.
-
Improve their understanding of the relationship between medical disorders and oral disease.
-
Learn to work effectively with other healthcare professionals in a hospital setting.
-
Pursue specific areas of interest under the close supervision of competent and dedicated attending staff.
The program's success can best be measured by the professional stature of its faculty and graduates. A number of University Hospital residents go on to specialty fellowships. Faculty members are nationally recognized for their expertise in the care of the developmentally disabled and for their contributions to advancements in maxillofacial, implant and TMJ surgery.
