The Advanced Specialty Education Program in Orthodontics is designed to develop proficiency in treatment planning and treatment of a wide variety of complex malocclusions using multiple appliance techniques.
Graduate students treat a broad range of patients with an emphasis on the adolescent. In addition, they perform age appropriate treatment for patients in the mixed dentition, craniofacial anomalies and manage adults requiring aligner, surgical, interdisciplinary or temporomandibular dysfunction treatment.
The program length is 34.5 months, with graduates receiving both a certificate in Orthodontics and a Masters Degree in Oral Biology upon completion of their requirements. In addition to our full-time faculty, the Department employs over 20 highly experienced part-time clinical faculty who supervise the treatment of resident cases on a weekly basis. In addition to the full and part-time Orthodontic faculty, instruction is provided by faculty from other departments within the School and by invited guest lecturers and consultants. The Department has eleven full-time staff members who support both the patient clinic and research lab.
The major focus of departmental research involves clinical studies. Both clinical and laboratory investigations are performed in state-of-the-art facilities and supported by clinical and basic science faculty throughout the School. Our heralded research initiatives are supported by the School's Associate Dean of Research, the Robert E. Gaylord Endowed Chair in Orthodontics, the Peter H. Buschang Endowed Chair for Orthodontic Research, and the Kimberly Campbell Endowment for Orthodontic Research. The Department is also supported by a strong and active alumni organization, the Robert E. Gaylord Alumni Association. Many of our graduates have served in all levels of professional leadership.
The Department has a long history of educating orthodontists dedicated to excellence. Today’s faculty and staff are committed to upholding and enhancing that storied tradition.
