The General Practice Residency at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is an intensive 12-month post-graduate training program fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation for four residents per year.  The program is designed to train the general dentist in the management of medically complex and special needs patients in both an outpatient and hospital / operating room setting while increasing knowledge in the practice of dentistry and its various disciplines.  Rotations include Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Orofacial Pain, General Medicine, and Anesthesia.  Didactic instruction includes approximately 2-3 hours every week for lectures, literature review, treatment planning conferences, workshops, and demonstrations.  Residents also have an on-call commitment.

The program begins July 1st of each year.  Residents are required to participate in a one-day House Staff orientation offered in mid and late June.  Residents who are not able to attend the orientation unfortunately cannot be accommodated. Candidates accepted into the program are required to provide documentation of current BLS and ACLS certifications prior to July 1st.
