The University of California San Francisco Postgraduate Program in Periodontology is a full-time 36-month course of study beginning July 1st each year. It integrates advances in the basic and applied biological sciences with modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases. The curriculum is designed for individuals who wish to combine their clinical training in periodontics with a graduate academic program in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences leading to an M.S. or Ph.D. degree. The program is intended to prepare future leaders in the specialty of periodontics and is well-suited for individuals interested in academic careers and clinical practice. Graduates of the program are educationally eligible for examination by the American Board of Periodontology.

The Division of Periodontology is in the Department of Orofacial Sciences in the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry. The department is responsible for teaching the disciplines of oral and craniofacial sciences, oral medicine, oral pathology, oral radiology and periodontology. This relationship facilitates the integration of relevant components of these disciplines into an exceptionally diverse postgraduate program in periodontology.
