The University of Illinois, Advanced Education in Periodontics provides instruction and clinical experience dealing with the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the Periodontium in adults. This includes surgical placement of implants and implant maintenance. Experienced faculty at the predoctoral and postdoctoral levels and in continuing education conducts programs for dental professionals. The postdoctoral residency program is a 34-month clinical specialty training leading to proficiency as demonstrated by Certificate of Advanced Education in Periodontics. An additional requirement is research experience, which leads to an MS degree.  MPH and PhD options are also available.  The Departmental goal is to provide the postdoctoral student with a strong educational foundation in periodontology for a future career in clinical Periodontics and to contribute new knowledge through basic and clinical research in Periodontics.
