This 24-month program uses didactic and clinical components to develop skilled clinicians who are well-prepared to function as endodontic specialists and to complete the certification process of the American Board of Endodontics. The didactic portion of the curriculum explores the biomedical sciences upon which modern clinical endodontics is based. This is accomplished via didactic courses and seminars along with a comprehensive review of the endodontic literature. Additionally, an ongoing review of current journal publications and general endodontics-related topics occurs. The clinical portion of the program is extensive with residents typically completing an ample number of cases. Case review is conducted weekly with residents presenting all their cases to attending faculty and fellow residents. Each resident is involved in clinical teaching in the pre-doctoral clinic and laboratory, as well as presenting lectures and leading seminars for other residents. A formal research project with manuscript construction is required. Several types of examinations are used periodically to measure progress in the program.

While previous clinical experience or advanced education residency is not required, applicants are better positioned having one or more years of experience in general dentistry.
