The Pediatric Dental Residency Program at the University of Louisville offers residents a diversified educational experience aimed at clinical problem solving with emphasis on multidisciplinary and intraprofessional patient management. The program offers clinical and didactic training, including clinical experiences with oral sedation, a wide range of medically compromised, developmentally disabled, and neurodiverse patients. Residents complete rotations in Anesthesiology, the Emergency Department, and Sedation Clinic at Norton Children's Hospital as well as rotations with the Hematology/Oncology Division and the Kentucky Craniofacial Clinic. Our residents cover the dental emergency call for Norton Children's Hospital Emergency Department 24/7, providing them with exceptional clinical experience in managing trauma and infection. Didactic courses are given at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and a research project with a faculty mentor is required. Graduates are well prepared to enter practice or academics and to seek Board Certification with the ABPD.

The University of Louisville residency program has an extensive rotation schedule in a 15-operatory clinic with a close working relationship with all of the pediatric medical specialites, located in a building next door to our clinic. This has increased the number of medically compromised, developmentally disabled, and neurodiverse patients accessing care in our clinic.

Upon completion of the program, both a certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and an MSD are awarded.
