Program Contact
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We have updated our standardized test requirements - please review that section carefully. In addition, invitations for interviews at the University of Michigan Graduate Orthodontics Program will be granted to applicants who qualify and are applying exclusively to programs that participate in the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program. As part of the admission requirements, applicants will be contacted with further information about certifying this requirement.
The graduate program in Orthodontics is 35 months in duration and grants a Master of Science in Orthodontics through the Rackham Graduate School. Seven students are admitted annually. A PhD track is also available for those individuals who wish to pursue full-time careers in academic orthodontics. The program also provides collaborative treatment on complex cases in conjunction with other dental specialties including Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, and Periodontics. The graduate program begins in early July and ends three years later at the end of the second week of June. It provides a comprehensive understanding of the science of craniofacial biology as well as its application to the various orthodontics techniques and methods in contemporary clinical practice. This program also provides experience in teaching orthodontics to predoctoral dental students as well as in the conduct of research to partially fulfill the requirement for a Master of Science degree in orthodontics.
