The Pediatric Dentistry Postgraduate Program is a 24-month program based upon fiscal year July 1 through June 30. The program provides a full range of clinical experiences in pediatric dental care, which is supported by an in-depth, critical, and scholarly appraisal of the specialty knowledge base. The postgraduate students are exposed to extensive clinical opportunities in behavior management, conscious sedation, hospital dentistry, management of patients with special needs, trauma management, growth, and development management, utilizing orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning, as well as age-appropriate orthodontic therapy where indicated. Postgraduate students participate in research, as well as rotations in anesthesiology, hematology/oncology, pediatric and emergency medicine, community service, and rotations to off-site multi-disciplinary clinics. The postgraduate student's total program time equates to: 20% Didactics; 70% Clinical; 5% Research; 5% Teaching. Our close-by affiliated hospital, the University Medical Center (UMC), provides the Level I Children's Trauma Center, The Children's Hospital of Nevada, and associated pediatric clinics. Program Strengths: Exceptional state-of-the-art clinical facilities; Strong didactic, evidence-based curriculum supporting clinical experiences; Outstanding medical rotations in anesthesia, emergency medicine, pediatric medicine, and hematology/oncology. Facilities: A 20-operatory pediatric clinic, a 24-bay orthodontic clinic, dental laboratories, affiliated community pediatric dental clinic, affiliated hospital, and affiliated surgical centers.
