The Adams chool of Dentistry at The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill offers a three-year postdoctoral program in Prosthodontics leading to a Master of Science degree and certificate in Prosthodontics. The program is approved and accredited by the Council on Education of the American Dental Association. Upon completion of all requirements, each student is educationally qualified for examination and certification by the American Board of Prosthodontics.

Three or four students are selected in September for the program that begins the following July 1st.  Applications should be process through PASS and only application materials completed on or about August 1st of each year will be considered.  Mandatory interview of selected applicants are conducted during August.

The program is enriched by comprehensive planning and treatment involving full mouth rehabilitation, treatment of edentulism, and rehabilitation of the worn dentition. Contemporary esthetic materials and dental implant therapy are emphasized.  Particular attention is paid to syndrome patients and individuals with acquired dental defects. The postdoctoral program in Prosthodontics also provides care for a large number of maxillofacial patients. In addition, it also hosts a dental implant fellowship program for fellowship-level clinical education. This busy clinical activity is supported by a clinical center that opened in 2007 that includes 12 operatories and two additional implant therapy operatories, a large dental laboratory, resident office space and a patient reception area. The clinic operates by using an electronic patient record, digital radiography and volumetric imaging as well as digital photography requirements.  There is a particularly strong interest in the use of emerging digital technologies for prosthesis design and manufacture.  Specified computers and digital cameras are required of every resident. The research component of the program is supported by a strong research faculty and well funded laboratories. Residents are encouraged to pursue clinical and didactic activities that culminate in successfully challenging the American Board of Prosthodontics Examination.   A rich didactic curriculum assists our students in completing the independent research requirement of the Masters of Science degree program.  Additional information is available at https://dentistry.unc.edu/advanced-dental-education/prosthodontics/
