The pediatric dental residency offers a two-year advanced training course in the specialty. The program trains residents in the advanced diagnostic and clinical techniques necessary to provide specialty care to children, adolescents, and individuals with disabilities. Upon successful completion of the program, residents will receive a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and are eligible to for the board certification examinations by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

The advanced pediatric dentistry curricula integrates scientific principles and methods with the clinical application of pediatric dentistry. Ample time is provided for either basic science or clinical research. Emphasis is also given to community and dental public health experiences.

Pediatric dental residents also rotate through the Predoctoral Pediatric Dentistry Clinic and the Preclinical Simulation Clinic to provide instruction and clinical supervision to predoctoral dental students as part of the teaching requirement for the program.

The Advanced Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at the School of Dental Medicine is a dedicated area housing an eight-chair clinic along with two state-of-the-art general anesthesia suites and recovery room. Digital radiograph facilities are available on-site. A resident laboratory and resident offices with computer internet access are adjacent to the clinic. There are four dedicated staff members in the Department who are comitted to providing both clerical and clinical support to the program.

Transcript Evaluation and Instructions

Transcripts submitted to PASS are acceptable.  A copy of the resident's diploma is required upon matriculation.

Letters of Evaluation Instructions

Three evaluations are required from faculty at the candidate's dental school.  One of those three evaluations must be from the pediatric dental chair, the predoctoral pediatric dental director, or another full-time pediatric dental faculty member.

TOEFL Requirement Instructions

Only candidates from US or Canadian dental schools are considered for admission. Applications from Non-US or Canadian Dental Schools will NOT be considered.

Additional Information

The program does not require the ADAT examination for the 2023 cycle.  However, if you have taken the ADAT examination, you may submit your scores through ADEA PASS to the program.  If the candidate matriculates into the residency, a copy of the dental school diploma and succesful completion of the NDBE or INDBE must be submitted.
