The residency in periodontics is a three-year certificate program. Each resident is exposed to the full breadth of periodontal treatment procedures and is expected to be competent in all phases of clinical periodontal care and implant dentistry. All residents are required to participate in the American Board of Periodontology certification process to become board-certified periodontists. The master's degree option is available to the residents in periodontics, as it is to all residents in the graduate programs at the School of Dental Medicine. Three residents are accepted annually. Applicants without U.S. Dental Degrees may be considered (DMD/DDS or BDS degree, or equivalent, is required), U.S. citizenship is not a requirement. More information can be sought from Dr. Andrea Ravida, Program Director or by contacting the department administrator, at CLO31@pitt.edu or 412-624-0385.
