The Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics is three years in length involving in all phases of Prosthodontics with special emphasis on total prosthetic rehabilitation of the patient. The program's didactic and clinical components are designed to train and equip the graduate student to transfer new knowledge and approaches, to implement evidence-based Prosthodontic knowlege in clinical practice, and to prepare for certification by the American Board of Prosthodontics. At the end of the three years, the residents receive a certificate; residents also have the option to earn a MDS degree during their residency program.   To achieve this additional degree residents need to  complete the requirements for the MDS degree which is described in the policy and procedures manual  for dental residents.

The program's didactic aspects compliment and advance the graduate student's knowledge in Prosthodontics, related disciplines and research methodology. Residents enrolled in the Prosthodontic program must complete the prescribed advanced Prosthodontic cirriculm detailed in the Prosthodontics Resident Manual. Additionally, research involvement and submission of a publication in peer-reviewed journals are encouraged.

The program's clinical components focus on diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment of dentate, partially edentulous and totally edentulous patients. Fixed, removable and implant Prosthdontics constitute the major portion of the clinical training, with occlusion, esthetics,  TMD and geriatrics as integral components. Residents are required to manage and treat patients requiring complete dentures, removable partial dentures, fixed partial dentures and implant restorations. Residents are also trained in all aspects of implant treatment including implant surgery. The program emphasizes the graduate student's involvement of patients with congential and acquired defects. New technology including CAD-CAM generated restorations, Implant bars and metal framework, digital radiography and electronic patient records are integral components of the program.
