The Master in Sciences of Dentistry in Periodontology will began in the 2023. The program consists of a minimum of three consecutive years (36 months) of progressive educational experiences leading to a Master in Sciences of Dentistry in Periodontology (MSD).
It meets the inicial accreditation requirements of the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) and the prerequisites for examination and certification by the American Board of Periodontology. The program uses the resources of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), School of Dental Medicine (SDM). The first year provides students the fundamental knowledge related to the treatment of patient with periodontal pathologies. Residents work with healthy and medically compromised patients and participate in seminars, treatment planning boards, lectures and formal courses in pathology, statistics, research protocols, pharmacology, and sedations. Most of the second year of the program, is devoted to clinical experiences in the areas of periodontal rehabilitation. Other program activities include clinical instruction, lecturing to undergraduate students, journal club, basic cardiac life support courses, continuing dental education courses, and presentation of a table clinic at the annual meeting of the College of Dental Surgeons of Puerto Rico. Strong emphasis is given to research experiences and a research project and a paper for publication are also required, prior to graduation.

Transcript Evaluation and Instructions
Must submit undergraduate and dental school transcripts.
Letters of Evaluation Instructions
Three letters of recommendation. An institutional letter of recommendation from dental school Dean, the Dean for Students Affair of the Dental for Academic Affair and two additional letters, as least one from faculty in the specialty area.
TOEFL Requirement Instructions
Foreigners’ candidates are required to provide evidence of passing the TOFL exam. All candidates must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish.

ü A personal interview is required by the program Director and admission committee for candidates for admission.
ü Must have passed part 1, National Dental Board Examination: Must have passed Part 2, National Dental Board Examination.
ü Must have earned a DMD/ DDS degree or equivalent.
