The University of Rochester Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers one-year non-categorical internship positions.  The Department performs a full scope of surgical procedures including dentoaveolar surgery, implants, maxillofacial trauma, orthognathic surgery, TMJ procedures, maxillofacial oncology and reconstruction.

The program offers an excellent opportunity for candidates who wish to gain additional OMFS experience and who plan to apply for a residency position in OMFS in the following year.

The OMFS intern functions at the same level as a first-year resident and receives the same education, training and responsibilities, which include trauma and non-trauma call, covering hospital clinics, performing procedures under local anesthesia, and participating in the operating room.  Interns are involved in all academic activities including didactic courses and conferences, seminars, workshops, and have the opportunity to participate in research activities.  OMFS interns spend 4 weeks on an anesthesia rotation.

Applications will be considered from graduates of dental schools accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and be eligible for dental licensure in the State of New York.  The license must be obtained before starting the internship program.
