This is a 36 month post-graduate advanced education program in Periodontics.  The mission of the program is to  provide outstanding education program in postdoctoral periodontal education that prepare exceptional, contemporary and ethical periodontal residents while enhancing periodontal/ oral health through innovation, distribution and utilization of evidence-based information in clinical practice.  Our goal is to create modern, competitive, innovative curricula Advanced Periodontics programs by utilizing dynamic, and contemporary teaching methods and technologies. The ultimate goal is to create competent, responsible, knowledgeable and capable clinicians with in-depth understanding of the practice of Periodontics and implant dentistry.

The program has a dedicated clinical and interdisciplinary component.  Our residents experience all classic periodontal procedures with approximately 50% of the program dedicated to implant related surgical procedures.  Our residents have the ability to work with  different implant systems, various virtual implant planning softwares, guided implant surgical cases, 3D printers and a variety of guided bone regeneration techniques. Residents will also have opportunity to work with videoscope, lasers and PRF centrifuges.  IV sedation and anesthesia rotations are part of the training. Teaching and research are important components of our program as well.  All residents will perform and publish a Masters of Science in Dentistry thesis project in areas including clinical research, microbiology, immunology, artificial intelligence software applications and dental informatics.  Our curriculum and program is well intergrated for the residents to successfully complete the written and oral components of the board certification in periodontology. Residents also get the opportunity to teach in the undergraduate clinics one half day each week and participate in various preclinical laboratories conducted for the undergraduate dental students. There are opportunities to participate in various inter-disciplinary post doctororal seminars including prosthodontics,endodontics, orthodontics, AEGD and GPR. Hospital based anesthesia rotations are also available. UTHealth Houston is one of the largest medical centers in the world and offers opportunites for clinical and research collaborations.

TOEFL Requirement Instructions

TOEFL is only required for applicants who are graduates from a non-accredited foreign dental school. The minimum score to apply is 92 attained within 3 years .

Other Requirement Instructions

ADAT is required in lieu of INDBE/NBDE 1 and 2  for foreign trained applicants with a minimum score of 440  taken within the last 3 years.
