The Department of Restorative Dentistry & Prosthodontics offers a three year program of advanced study in prosthodontics leading to a certificate and a Master of Science Degree. The goal of this program is to train well qualified dentists in all aspects of prosthodontics. Clinical, laboratory, and didactic experience in fixed, removable, maxillofacial and implant prosthodontics including implant placement, as well as interrelations with other medical and dental specialties, are emphasized. Biomedical sciences relevant to the practice of prosthodontics are integrated into a curriculum which correlates biological, behavioral, and clinical disciplines. The first year is primarily devoted to didactic and clinical prosthodontics. The core didactic curriculum is emphasized to assist the resident in performing the clinical treatments required. During the second year, emphasis is on clinical treatment. Time is increased in the clinic with less time spent in didactic effort. Residents complete a five week clinical rotation at MD Anderson Cancer Center. The third year is primarily committed to clinical treatment, specialty lectures, and completing the Master of Science requirements. A  300,000-square-foot, six-story dental school was opened in May 2012.
