The VA Puget Sound Healthcare System GPR Program accepts 2 residents and participates in the PASS program.
Residents are on-site at the Seattle hospital location only. Our program will prepare the resident to deliver total oral healthcare, by providing clinical and didactic instruction involving ambulatory and hospitalized patients with a wide spectrum of medical conditions. This hospital training program will enable the resident to develop a level of understanding of oral health as an integral part of the overall medical well-being of the patient. It will also offer the opportunity to work with other healthcare professionals in the hospital and broaden clinical exposure to conditions not commonly seen in the dental school environment.
Residents will provide comprehensive care to the veteran patient (including periodontal therapy, oral surgery, restorative care, endodontic treatment, implant procedures and replacement of missing teeth utilizing removable and fixed appliances). They will also provide emergent care to patients presenting to the walk-in clinic. There are also rotations with Anesthesia and Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic in the hospital to for the residents to gain knowledge in evaluating medical complexities and airway management. Note that there are no opportunities to perform pedodontic or orthodontic procedures at our facility.
