The Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) at Wichita State University, School of Oral Health, College of Health Professions is a unique twelve-month postdoctoral education program that offers dentists the opportunity for advanced comprehensive clinical experience.

Our program is designed to increase your clinicial capabilities in preparation for private practice where specialists may not be available, such as a small town or county. The collective comprehensive care provided by the resident provides and ideal procedure mix.  The full mix includes mentoring in procedures usually encountered by specialists such as posterior endodontics; placement and restoration of implants; surgical extractions; surgical periodontics with GTR/GBR grafting, and altering vertical dimension with full mouth reconstruction.

Our state-of-the-art facility is very similar to private practice, as we are a stand-alone facility and not attached to a hospital or dental school. The AEGD resident treats the patient comprehensively without division of treatment between other graduate programs. This provides a rich educational experience that broadens the scope of practice.

Our faculty are experienced in technology and support CAD/CAM restorations and guided  implant surgery placement. A 3D cone beam (CT scan) also supports diagnosis and treatment planning.  We also have a technology room dedicated to innovative technology including CEREC PrimeScan and PrimeMill for same day crowns and a SprintRay 3D printer.

The WSU AEGD program offers:

  • Oral and systemic relations in health and disease
  • Experience in office management
  • Skills in four-handed dentistry by assigning each resident a Dental Assistant
  • Support of a full time Dental Hygienist
  • Behavorial aspects of patient management
  • A full complement of competent dentists, representing both general practice and dental specialists, serve as faculty and participate in the teaching program

Advantages of WSU AEGD program:

  • Mentoring by a team of highly skilled dentists in a state-of-the-art clinic
  • Gain experience in treatment of challenging cases from a diverse patient population
  • Acquire ongoing education through conferences, web-based training, and other resources
